Preparing for a Bar or Bat Mitzvah is about much more than learning to read from the Torah. Together with each child, we explore their Torah portion, its stories, ideas and values, and connect them to their own life and experiences. We learn the Torah reading and prepare a personal D’var Torah, giving each child the opportunity to bring their own voice, thoughts and personality into the ceremony.

The preparation is tailored to each child’s age, level and language. Lessons can be held in Hebrew, English or Russian, and we have experience working with children whose first language is not Hebrew. Our goal is not simply to prepare them for the Torah reading, but to help them understand the meaning of the moment, feel confident and proud, and make their Bar or Bat Mitzvah a truly personal and meaningful Jewish experience.

Who Can Lead the Ceremony?

There are several options for leading a Bar or Bat Mitzvah ceremony, depending on the style of the event and what feels right for you and your child. You can choose a Reform rabbi or female rabbi, or an experienced ceremony leader, and create a personal, meaningful and moving ceremony together.

Reform Rabbi

We work with Reform rabbis and female rabbis from Israel and Europe, subject to availability. They can be part of your child’s preparation as well as the ceremony itself, getting to know your child, supporting them throughout their learning, and leading a personal, inclusive and meaningful ceremony tailored to your family.

Ceremony Leader

If you are looking for a more personal and flexible approach, you can choose an experienced ceremony leader. Together, you can create a meaningful Jewish experience that combines tradition, family, and your child’s personal story.
